The protest involving thousands of marchers started peaceful enough, but turned violent when a group calling themselves “Black Bloc” advanced on a police line. Police said a water bottle was thrown at them. They retaliated by brutally beating the front line protesters with clubs.
Several arrests were made and some were taken to the hospital.
The protest ended up at the Art Institute where a NATO event was being held.
Most of the crowd has dispersed now, but a few hundred people remain.
Reports coming in are indicating that around 45 people were arrested today. It’s unknown how may were injured.
